Ghannia Bokhari
Biography
Ghannia Bokhari is a Senior Associate Lawyer at Sanelli Law Group. She brings a rich and diverse legal background to the firm, with over a decade of experience in immigration and refugee law, family law, sexual assault law, and international human rights law.
Ghannia has extensive experience working in the legal clinic and non-profit sector, providing service to vulnerable populations, especially survivors of gender-based violence. Ghannia has supported clients in navigating intersecting marginalizations, such as homelessness, discrimination, mental health, and criminalization. As such, Ghannia’s practice is trauma-informed, and built on cultural competency and an anti-oppression/anti-racist framework. She routinely collaborates with community partners to ensure marginalized individuals receive comprehensive services.
Prior to joining Sanelli Law, Ghannia worked internationally on substantive gender equality issues, focusing on gendered poverty, racial justice, and reproductive rights. She engaged in feminist law reform and policy advocacy with the New York Civil Liberties Union and the United Nations Working Group on Discrimination against Women & Girls. She has also advocated for the rights of Muslim women and communities through supporting equity projects with the Canadian Centre for Muslim Woman and the Muslim Legal Support Centre.
At Sanelli Law, Ghannia assists with a variety of immigration and refugee matters, including refugee claims and appeals before the Immigration and Refugee Board, and judicial reviews before the Federal Court. Ghannia also supports clients with preparing complex immigration applications, including pre-removal risk assessments, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and family sponsorships.
Ghannia holds a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from Columbia Law School in New York, USA. She earned her law degree (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts degree (H.BA.) from the University of Toronto.
In her personal time, Ghannia is an avid tennis player, intermediate woodworker, and expert coffee drinker.
She is fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
