Sara Sanelli
Biography
Sara Sanelli is the founder of Sanelli Law. Sara has over 10 years of experience in the legal field.
Sara practices in a wide variety of immigration and refugee matters, which include refugee claims and appeals before the Immigration and Refugee Board, as well as judicial reviews before the Federal Court.
Sara has experience dealing with complex and high-stakes immigration applications including deferrals and stay motions, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and pre-removal risk assessments.
Sara also represents clients in preparing sponsorship applications for married spouses, common-law partners, same-sex/queer partners, and family members. She has extensive experience completing permanent residence for protected persons applications. While Sara’s practice covers an array of clientele with distinct backgrounds, she has dedicated considerable effort to supporting the LGBTQ+ community with their refugee claims, permanent residency, and sponsorships.
Education & Experience
Prior to her call to the bar, Sara completed a clerkship where she worked with several judges at the Ontario Court of Justice. Sara has collaborated with Innocence Canada. During her time with the non-profit organization Innocence Canada, Sara actively contributed to various policy initiatives, working alongside the Minister of Justice to advocate for those who have been wrongfully convicted.
Sara holds a law degree (J.D.) from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A. Honors) from York University.
Sara’s passion for justice extends beyond her professional endeavors. Her philanthropic contributions include support to notable not-for-profit organizations, including the Canadian Red Cross, CultureLink, Egale Canada, Friends of Ruby, Innocence Canada, Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund, and The 519.
Sara is proudly empaneled by Legal Aid Ontario and is a member of several legal associations, including the Refugee Lawyers Association, Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.
